Adult Acne: Causes and Cures
One in five women between the ages of 25 and 40. Here are a few facts about adult acne and how to rid your skin of it. Blackheads are not dirt, they're actually the result of oil and dead cells getting trapped in a pore where they block the duct and mix with bacteria. They then turn black when exposed to air. Red pimples develop when blackheads become inflamed and they spread when touched with dirty hands. When the pimple becomes infected, it develops a whitehead or pustule. These can break and cause scars. Too many women wait to see a doctor for their skin problems. If you have basic acne, over-the-counter treatments with salicylic acid (there's that magic word again) to unclog pores and benzoyl peroxide to reduce bacteria on skin should do you, but for serious acne, a dermatologist has an arsenal of products to clear up your skin.

Adult Female Acne Treatment: Specializing in acne menopausal, acne and hormones. However persistent or severe acne is much more troubling. For more than very mild acne, hormonal testing is useful. This is the same as carried out for extra hair growth or alopecia, and consists in measuring androgens to see if elevated levels are involved in causing the acne. However, even if androgen levels are normal, they are still involved in starting the acne process. Some, but not most, women with acne, have a hormonal disorder. Evaluation by a physician experienced with these conditions is a good idea for severe acne that is not controlled by dermatological medications, or when there are also irregular periods, increased hair, or a weight problem. Anyone with a tendency to acne should only apply non-comedogenic preparations to their skin. “Comedone” is the medical term for whiteheads and blackheads so “non-comedogenic” simply means not causing breakouts. Non-comedogenic products will not feel greasy if rubbed between the fingers.

It's not fair. Just when you've successfully navigated the ravages of, and "Adult acne is a very common problem, but an under-recognized one,". At the heart of acne lies the pimple, what doctors call a comedo. It's a plug of fat, skin debris, and keratin (the stuff nails, hair, and skin are made of) stuck in a hair duct. When it's open, we call it a blackhead. When it's closed over, we call it a whitehead. Whiteheads often cause the walls of the hair duct to rupture. This leads to redness, infection, and the papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts of acne. Be sure to use oil-free, non-comedogenic lotions or sunscreens.
